The course covers the main topics of research ethics and scientific integrity with a focus on their practical aspects. The methods of instruction include lecture, case analyses, and open discussion. Lecture 1 October 24th, 2019 | Research ethics and scientific integrity. The place of ethics in research design. Research data management. The ethics of scientific publication; authorship attribution. Peer review of publications and research proposals. Conflicts of interest. |
Lecture 2 October 31th, 2019 | Animal experimentation. The ethical status of non-human animals. Justification of research involving non-human animals. Minimization of animal suffering (3 Rs principle). Safety of researchers, laboratory staff and protection of the environment. |
Lecture 3 November 7th, 2019 | Research involving human participants. Participant recruitment; vulnerable participants. Participant Information sheet; Informed Consent procedure and forms; ability to consent. Personal data collection and processing (including data of special categories); incidental findings management. Research involving human cells and tissues; primary and secondary use of biological materials of human origin. |
