Lectures  'The basics of research ethics' will be given by Prof. dr hab. Paweł Łuków from Centre for Bioethics and Biolaw, University of Warsaw. Participate!

The course covers the main topics of research ethics and scientific integrity with a focus on their practical aspects. The methods of instruction include lecture, case analyses, and open discussion. An introductory lecture will be followed by a discussion based on a case study provided by the instructor

Lecture 1

October 24th, 2019

Research ethics and scientific integrity. The place of ethics in research design. Research data management. The ethics of scientific publication; authorship attribution. Peer review of publications and research proposals. Conflicts of interest.

Lecture 2

October 31th, 2019

Animal experimentation. The ethical status of non-human animals. Justification of research involving non-human animals. Minimization of animal suffering (3 Rs principle). Safety of researchers, laboratory staff and protection of the environment.

Lecture 3

November 7th, 2019

Research involving human participants. Participant recruitment; vulnerable participants. Participant Information sheet; Informed Consent procedure and forms; ability to consent. Personal data collection and processing (including data of special categories); incidental findings management. Research involving human cells and tissues; primary and secondary use of biological materials of human origin.
